All it takes is one

For decades environmentalists and those “bleeding heart liberals” warned of environmental disaster should we from fossil fuels, oil spills in particular. Opponents insisted leaks such as the one we face in the Gulf were virtually impossible. Besides they were carefully “self-regulating” and taking all precautions and safe guards. Even now supporters of our fossil-fuel based society argue that this is just one off shore oil rig while there are hundreds operating safely. But it only takes one to see an ecosystem destroyed, not to mention the economy of a large portion of the country. And unfortunately we are just seeing the beginning of this disaster. The ramifications this may not be know for years.

The argument in favor of off shore oil drilling is similar to those who say “Global Warming” doesn’t exist. But the consequences of them being wrong will make the BP oil disaster seem like a small stain on a shirt.

How many more reasons do we need to “End our Addiction to Oil.” Our dependence on oil compromises our national security, economy, environment, and climate. Everyone agrees we must end our dependence on oil, but we are no doing much about it. Even those in the Gulf States, whose shore and economies are being devastated are calling for an end on the moratorium for off-shore drilling. Why? They are losing even more jobs. So this vicious circle continues.

It’s time to make a bold move towards greener energy. In November 2007 the American Solar Energy Society released a report forecasting as many as 40 million new jobs could be created in the renewable and energy efficiency industries by 2030. That’s nearly 1.8 million new “green” jobs every year for the next 22 years. These findings were not disputed!

I’m no expert, but it’s time for a truly green energy policy. If not now when?

  1. THis is too depressing for me. I cannot watch the news right now. Feel so totally helpless and hopeless about it and how they are handling it.

  2. Just so hopeless.
